You would think

that I’m packing for a week of running

and not a week of work.  There’s my KT tape, my Road ID, my mizunos, icebreaker undies, theraband, karate white belt (for stretching), my t-shirts and shorts (it’s still HOT down in Houston and NOLA) and what’s that green thing on the right?

well, that my friends is my travel foam roller.  Sadly, most of the running gear is all wishful thinking.  The hip still feels wonky, so I’m taking a rest. I’ll do my 10k tour of NOLA on Thursday (which will be at a slow pace, with many stops), but other than that, I’m going to concentrate on strengthening, stretching and cross-training.

But mixed in with all the gear are work clothes and shoes (too many) and shampoo, etc.

I spent today deliberating, not just about the running gear, but also the knitting projects. (I know, I know, tough decisions here…). I’ve got a 3+ hour flight to Houston, then a 5 hour car ride from Houston to NOLA, then the flight from NOLA to NYC.  Plenty of knitting time.

I plan on bringing Yeti. Because she’s still not yeti done.  And she’s still not yeti done because I’m running out of yarn. bleh. So I came up with a solution.

I’m adding sleeves and torso length in a contrasting yarn (different weight even), so that it looks as though it’s a short sleeved sweater over a t-shirt.  Which is a look I favor.  The solution came to me in a dream a few nights ago, so today I dragged Yeti out of time out, and tried to figure out what to do. A few complications: 1. I don’t know my gauge in the new yarn. I figure it’s between 5.5 and 6 stitches to the inch. Yeti is 4 to the inch, so it’s not as simple as picking up stitches in a 1:1 ratio. 2. I’ve never knit up a sleeve on the fly.  I’ve got 58 stitches picked up, and i instinctively know that I should decrease evenly down the sleeve for 14″ or so, and I should end up with a 6″ circumference around my wrist (I want this sleeve to mimic a long sleeve t-shirt, so the sleeves should be fairly form-fitting). We’ll see how it goes.  I may even add thumb-holes, if I’m feeling brave.

If Yeti doesn’t go well, then I’ll resort to some socks.

I wanted to do some stripey orange/blue socks, but orange started coming apart was I was winding it.  So maybe I’ll move onto the blue multi.  I’ll play it by ear.

  1. I’m going on a short business trip and am only taking 1 project with me. I’m a little anxious. What if I don’t feel like knitting that particular pattern? Decisions, decisions.
