Sittin’ pretty

I know I shouldn’t boast, but I am just going to give myself a pat on the back.  I am done for Christmas.  Shopping all done! Knitting all done! I find it hard to believe that I’m not going to have to run out at the last minute for a final gift, or that after midnight mass, I’ll still have to bind off one project or another.

I just finished steam-blocking Flore:

I’m really pleased with how this came out, considering all the math involved when I switched out yarns (substituting a heavier wool for the lighter dk-weight silk-wool blend).  I used Manos del Uruguay’s Wool Classica, which I just love in stockinette (or reverse stockinette as in this case) because of all the texture from the single thick/thin ply.  That, and Thing 2 is not easy on her clothes, so I just felt as though it would wear better.

My huge surge in productivity may be attributed to the fact that I’m trying to stay off my feet when I feel the urge to have them run.  My left ankle suffered a bit of a sprain in the trail race, and my Thursday night run left me hobbling into PT on Friday morning.  ouchies.  It’s not swollen, and now I’m walking ok, but for some reason landing on my foot still hurts.  I’m going to try to stay good until at least Christmas, maybe longer.  Which is disappointing, because I really wanted to get in a 10-12 mile long run this week.

I’ve got 5 weeks until Surf City, and now I’m revising my goals a bit.  I had wanted to get under 2:10, and planned to use Janathon as my motivation to put some oomph into my workouts. But with this bit of a hiatus, I’m going to have to basically rebuild my endurance and focus less on speedwork/hills.  I’m a bit disappointed.  I’ve got this awesome training plan, but my body’s just not cooperating.  That being said, I’m running Surf City with my aunt (she actually plans to walk, so I guess I should say “I’m driving to Surf City in the same car as my aunt, and after the race, we’ll meet up again, and return to her home”), so it is more of a social time, rather than a competition.
