A few days ago, I got sucked into Project 333; the practice of limiting yourself for 3 months to 33 items of clothing (which include accessories, shoes and outerwear, but not underwear, socks, or workout clothing–if worn to a workout).  I find this really appealing, because although I don’t have a HUGE wardrobe, it’s definitely filled with too much fluff and things I just haven’t wanted to part with just yet, just in case.

So in my head, I’ve been mulling over which pieces of clothing, shoes, outwear and accessories would make the cut, and already I’ve started making exceptions…like for my fancy cowboy boots which rarely see the light of day, but make me so happy every time I look at them.

The truly difficult part?  Assessing my hand-knit and hand-sewn projects with a fair mind and even hand. I’ve made a fair amount of crap in my day; it’s time to be ruthless. #justbecauseimadeitdoesntmeanitsgreat is my new mantra (and hashtag).

The gauntlet will fall September 1. Project 333 will start October 1 for me.

Meanwhile, to confuse you all, I’ve been knitting and sewing up a storm!  (some of these projects are from spring, but unblogged)

There’s a lot about this Project 333 that appeals to me, though, even if it puts the brakes on my hobbies a bit.  I like the idea of living with less, because, truth be told, I probably only use about 33 items of clothing per season anyways. I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe, with tons of pieces (well, 33) that mix and match. I like the idea of being able to pack more easily.  The geek in me likes the idea of creating a spreadsheet see how many combinations I can get out of 33 pieces.  But importantly for me, it will make me more mindful about what I choose to make. #lessfrenzymorefocus (I’m on fire with the hashtags today!)

In big news, I’m headed off to Yorkshire next month, hopefully with a pared down wardrobe, for a knitting trip.  I. CAN’T. WAIT.

    • YES! Yorkshire in the UK. The actual town is Harrogate. I haven’t yet booked my travel, but the program is Sept. 12 through 18. I will probably fly over on the 10th (arriving on the 11th) and leave the 19th. Is that close to you? I did check, and there’s a Parkrun in the town I’ll be in.

  1. Having just moved, I’m yet again trying to purge. I actually like purging, but I feel like I’m down to the stuff I don’t want to get rid of, or those sewing projects that I don’t love but hate to get rid of. I get so bored so easily with my wardrobe, though, I doubt I’d make it through 3 months with only a few things! Good luck – I look forward to seeing how it goes for you!

  2. I love the structure in the 333 method! Never heard of it before, but it’s tempting while I try to downsize.
